Purchasing a Velikaya's Canaan Dog

Velikaya’s Kennel is not a commercial venture and Canaan Dogs are not a breed that is meant for everyone. We produce few litters a year and we breed first and foremost for ourselves to continue the line of quality Canaan Dogs for conformation and work.
We offer a few pups from these litters to active showing or working homes, or to loving pet homes, suiting the pups to their future homes based on the pups' physical attributes and temperament.

We do not sell dogs to people who we know little about, so if you want a dog from us expect that we will ask a lot about you and that we will attempt to verify information you give us.
Please do not leave vague messages such as "Do you have puppies available?" or "how much are your pups?" Instead, tell us about yourself and your reasons for wanting a Velikaya’s Canaan Dog.
We do not sell show quality dogs to non-show homes.
All Velikaya’s pet puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract and limited registration.

We do occasionally have adult dogs available. Usually they are suitable for showing or working homes or they are wonderful pets and in this case we don’t ask money but only a lot of love for them (see our "Adoption Page")

All our dogs and bitches are tested for hips, elbows, patella and eyes.

Our males are at stud to quality bitches whose hips and eyes have been screened for inherited defects. Frozen semen is available from most of our dogs, and we will export semen to approved bitches.

The Canaan Dog is healthier than many other breeds, but this doesn’t mean that he cannot be affected with hereditary problems.
Whether you eventually purchase a Canaan from Velikaya’s or from another breeder, you owe it to yourself, your family and the breed to research the background on your future puppy.  Do not be afraid to ask about the health of the sire and dam of the puppy.  Do not be afraid to ask to see health certifications such as OFA clearances and ACVO or CERF eye exams.

Do not base your selection of a breeder on distance or of a puppy on coat color. The nearest breeder doesn’t mean the most serious breeder and about the coat colors no one is preferred or considered “rare”.
